A top journal trend I'm in love with...

I've been a stationery freak since forever. In fact my pile of notebooks, journals and planners is set to rival that of the pile next to my bed of books to read. Youch!

Since I've started publishing my own notebooks on Amazon my eyes have been opened to a new world to uses, designs, trends, and notebook 'seasons'. Yes, notebooks have popular seasons, and I'm not just talking Christmas and the mad January scramble for an annual diary.

But there's one thing, one really cool thing, that I didn't even know existed until recently. Yes... it's....
BULLET JOURNALS!

Picture
Did somebody say scrap booking? That's so 2017! Bullet journaling is the newest craze sweeping the world and people are going bananas for it! Paper quality and thickness, flat-laying journals, bullet journal 'spreads' and washi tape are the discussions of the day in journaling communities and circles everywhere. I dare you to type in #bujo on Instagram and you'll see what I mean.

I'm likely very late to this game, so for those of you like me, here's a quick run down of the characteristics of a bullet journal:
  • bullet journals can be used in place of a notebook, organiser, or even your yearly diary/planner. Aside from your regular to-do lists, appointment schedules and notes, you can include savings trackers, mood trackers, event trackers, books you want to read or movies you want to watch. The possibilities are endless!
  • bullet journals can be any size, but usually have a 'dot grid' interior, meaning every page has perfectly aligned discreet grey dots to help with sketching, note taking and alignment.
  • incorporation of an index at the beginning of your journal is imperative, and in fact my favourite bit! Never search through copious pages of notes again! Just stick the page range and title of notes in the index and you'll have it all at your finger tips.
  • If you're a die-hard traditional bullet journalist, you'll be wanting to use particular symbols to signify carry-over items on your lists, completed items, and lots more. You can find out all about these by doing a quick Google search.
  • bullet journal spreads are not for the faint of heart, and in fact some people make a living from their spread designs on popular social media sites like Instagram. Creative types who love calligraphy, drawing and design must take a look for themselves!

I have to admit, I've designed a few bullet journals now and had them shipped to me. I can see how it's so addictive! I've been practising drawing, drafting short stories, writing poetry and all sorts of things in them! I'm even using one as a proper journal; index in the front and all.

If you're in Australia you can go here to see what I've been designing (and the shipping is free), and for everyone else (hello America!), you can go here to check out my designs on Amazon. I'm uploading new designs regularly, so if you like what you see, make sure you check the relevant Amazon page as often as you like. Pssst... did I mention journals make great Christmas gifts?

Finally, if you liked this post and want to read more, make sure you get yourself on my mailing list. Not only will you be the first to know about new products, blog posts and my writing journey, but I'll also be holding some cool competitions that you won't want to miss! But wait, there's more! If you'd like to see more of me (aww shucks) you can find me hanging out on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest below.

    Who am I?

Hi, I'm Lisa. I'm a writer, educator, and artist of NFTs and printables. I live with my husband and son in Canberra, Australia.

Some trivial facts about me... as much as I'd like it to be, my surname is not pronounced 'Karma'. It's actually Dutch, so depending on where you are depends on how it's pronounced. Kal-mah, Kul-mah; po-tay-toes, po-tah-toes.

I won the ACT under-18's female pool (8-ball) championships when I was in year 12.

I hope you like it here. I've certainly enjoyed creating this space - a place for me to share my writerly journey, artistic endeavours and all that's in between. Enjoy!
